Grant Research Tools
Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance - This site lists most Federal grants and provides links to details about them. The category search feature at the site allows you to click on, for example, "Law, Justice, and Legal Services" and get a list of every Federal program that funds such projects. The information is very efficient, as often times multiple agencies have an interest in similar projects. The only downside is that it doesn't always include newly authorized grant programs.
Grants.gov - This site allows you to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. Grants.gov is THE single access point for over 1,000 grant programs offered by 26 Federal grant-making agencies.
Thompson Publishing - Thompson Publishing publishes The Federal Grants Management Handbook which is the most comprehensive and trusted source for administering federal program funds — from submitting grant proposals to setting up financial management systems for payment and reporting, initiating audits and grant closeout to searching for best practices and procedures. If you have the money to spare, we highly recommend purchasing this handbook. You can get the print version for $369 or the online and print versions for $468.
Grant Websites
Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program - Many of our customers receive funding through this grant program. The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system. JAG replaces the Byrne Formula and Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG) programs with a single funding mechanism that simplifies the administration process for grantees. Since this is a Federal passthrough grant, you will need to contact your state administering agency to apply. Once you get to your state's page, you'll need to find the "Byrne JAG" contact for your state.
